Latest News on Merger of SA to PA in Postal Department

A proposal for Merger of Sorting Assistant to Postal Assistant has been sent to all Head of Circles of Postal Department for comments. Yes, SA of RMS Division will be merged with PA of Post Office in the upcoming months of this year 2023.

Meaning of Merger of Sorting Assistant to Postal Assistant

There are two different cadres working in postal department. One is the Sorting Assistant (SA) and the second is Postal Assistant (PA). 

Sorting Assistant works in RMS Division and Postal Assistant works in post office. 

Now the Postal Department also known as India Post, wants to merge SA cadre into PA Cadre. Therefore, the Postal Directorate (higher Office) issued a draft of a proposal for merging of Sorting Assistant Cadre into Postal Assistant Cadre in upcoming months.

What happened after merging of SA to PA Cadre

After merging the SA cadre into PA cadre following rules will be followed. These are as under-

• No further appointment shall be made in SA cadre after merger of SA to PA Cadre.
• Existing officials of SA cadre shall continue to be in SA cadre till they are promoted to next higher grade in RMS cadre or cease to be in service.
• Existing SA Cadre may make a request in writing to switch over to PA cadre and such request shall be received within the prescribed duration or till a specific date.
• The designation of the officials of SA cadre, who shall submit request to switch over to PA cadre shall be converted to PA.
• However, even after switching over to PA cadre, such an official shall continue to be on the strength of his parent RMS Division, if not allotted to any other division.
• Existing officials of SA cadre shall be allowed to submit a maximum of 5 preferences for Postal Division while switching SA cadre to PA cadre at their own request.
• However, those officials to whom no other postal division is allotted due to non-availability of vacancies, will continue to be on the strength of their parent RMS division as Postal Assistant.
• Official of SA Cadre who chooses to switch over to PA cadre shall not be allowed to revert back in SA Cadre.
• Existing officials of SA cadre who choose to continue in SA cadre, will only be considered for promotion in the existing hierarchy in RMS supervisory cadre, as per the availability of posts.
• All existing vacant posts of SA cadre shall be converted into PA on a specific date.
• All posts of SA Cadre that shall be vacated in the future due to retirement and promotion shall be converted in PA Cadre.
• Ultimately, the entire strength of SA cadre would be converted into PA cadre in due course.
